Version 0.1.0 Fighting the good fight
It's been a while since the last update for Sword of the Spirit, but I have used this time to add to and improve the game feel and specifically the combat. The goal of this update is to begin moving beyond simply showing off mechanics to having a small proof of concept for what the game could be as a full release. The changes I have made include the following:
- Increased the grounded and aerial acceleration to make the player character feel less slippery
- Added a short hitstop effect when attacking an enemy or vice versa to make hits feel more impactful
- Reduced the hp of Worry so that it takes fewer hits to defeat
- Replaced the floating rocks with palm trees that also act as platforms
- Introduced, Spite, a crab-like enemy that attacks from above and hides in its shell until the player gets close
- Included new sound effects to Worry and Spite's projectiles
- Extended the play area with more platforming and enemies
- Changed the HUD to have a player health bar
- Added an enemy health bar to the HUD that appears during combat
I'm planning on making updates at more regular intervals as SOTS is beginning to gain more exposure. I'm still not certain if Sword of the Spirit can become a full game in the future, but I'm continuing development as I'm currently blessed with plenty of time to work on it. As always, feedback is welcome.
